Produced by Davino in Romania’s Dealu Mare region, Purpura Valahica is a single varietal expression of Fetească Neagră. The country’s flagship indigenous red grape. The fruit comes from selected parcels in Ceptura, planted with carefully chosen clonal material suited to the region’s clay-limestone soils. Fermented traditionally in small stainless-steel tanks with extended skin contact, the wine is matured in Romanian oak barriques before further bottle ageing, preserving both varietal character and structural refinement. Davino’s style leans toward precision and balance rather than extraction, allowing the grape’s naturally savoury profile to remain intact.
Tasting Note Dark-fruited and quietly spiced, with notes of plum, black cherry and subtle tobacco unfolding gradually in the glass. The palate is structured yet polished, supported by firm but integrated tannins and fresh acidity. Oak is present but measured, giving the wine breadth and texture without overshadowing the character of the grape.
