István Balassa is part of a newer generation of Tokaj growers focused on dry wines that express vineyard character with clarity and restraint. Sourced from the historic Betsek vineyard, one of Mád’s most respected sites. This Furmint comes from volcanic soils rich in rhyolite and zeolite, bringing both structure and mineral tension to the wine. Fermented and matured with minimal intervention, Balassa’s style favours precision over weight, allowing the naturally firm acidity and saline profile of Furmint to remain central.
Tasting NoteReserved at first, opening gradually with citrus, orchard fruit and subtle smoky mineral notes. The palate is tightly structured and linear, carried by vibrant acidity and a pronounced volcanic character. Textural yet finely cut, with a long, dry finish marked by salinity and tension.
